Tyram
fisheries was originally excavated in the last world war in
the 1940's, Sand and gravel was used to build the runways at
near by RAF Lindholme and after the war the lakes were used
as a filtration system for the main gravel works behind the
complex (now a nature reserve).
Some
time in the 1970's fish were stocked as fingerlings but not
with the intention of fishing and over the years various
fish have been stocked and also some have managed to breed.
The lakes have also undergone a number of changes which
leads us to when we took over in 1994. We had the carp lake
but this was joined to the jet ski lake and a large long
lake. Our first job was to block off the connection between
the carp lake and the jet ski lake, once this was complete
We netted the lakes so see what stock we had and transferred
the pick of the bunch between the lakes. A lot of the fish
were old stunted common carp with the odd mirror carp. We
sold 2000lb of the commons and this funded our first
stocking in the members carp lake.
